| Housing and Child Care | Media and Security | Workshops | What to Bring | Check-in |
We will be able to house about 150 people on the nights of August 10, 11, and 13. (We will do our best to find housing for people on the 12th.) To the extent that housing is available we will arrange it on first come, first serve basis. It is strongly recommended that people pre-register ASAP. People should pack as if going camping (without tents). We have a list of inexpensive hostels and a list of campgrounds. There might be possibilites for guerilla camping near the conference site.
If you are planning on participating in the protests of the Democratic National Convention, see the D2KLA housing site for listings of available accomodations.
Childcare will be available from August 11-13. If you would like childcare, please let us know as soon as possible. We will make our plans based on the number of children registered. We ask that all people utilizing our child care services volunteer some of their time in the child care center.
No cameras, audio recorders, or video recorders will be allowed inside the conference or on the grounds. Written media is OK. Interviews and workshops where all media are allowed will take place at Luna Sol Cafe. We are not planning illegal activities; we simply want the conference to be comfortable for all attendees. The conference organizers will carry cameras to document police brutality only. Participants' identities will be protected.
We ask that all attendees form affinity groups with trusted friends before they arrive. If that is not possible, at least leave crucial information (medical, contact info) with a trusted friend before you leave. In light of the recent tactics of the police, such as illegal and undeserved mass arrests in Washington DC on April 15, it is wise to be prepared for the worst. The LAPD has recently been saying we are "terrorists" and "the ones to watch out for" during the protests (even though it's a friggin' CONFERENCE), so be careful.
We would like a wide variety of workshops to be part of our conference. Some of our ideas: anarchist history, anti-racism, feminism, practical anarchy (home gardening, child raising, bike repair), political debates and forums, protest tactics, movement building, networking, art and theater, economics, media, and anything else related to a truly democratic society.
Please email naacweb@hotmail.com if you would like your workshop moved to a different time.
